Fashion is everywhere

Shopping : That colour that I (used to) loath

I’m always shocked amazed surprised when I realise how much influence trends have on our tastes. However hard you try to stand out, you’re always part of one movement or another, always part of a trend or an anti-trend… I’ve told you before, but I’ll tell you again – I used to SWEAR I would never wear slim jeans… Ahem. How many people truly stay away from fashion and manage to create their own style ?! Not many people even particularly feel the need to wear something very unusual and unless your name is Gaga it’s better not to walk around wearing meat dresses anyway. Let’s face it, whatever our attempts to be “original”, we’re all fashion victims (that scene about cerulean blue in The Devil Wears Prada seems to come to mind…). Anyway, suicidal monologue aside, this topic came up because I would like to talk to you about my love-hate relationship with the new red. Burgundy, so to speak. In other words, that UGLY colour I’ve always loathed… and that I now crave on a daily basis. Now you see where I’m coming from. Someone up there, way up high, has decided that I would now love the dark-red / brown / can’t-quite-decide-if-it’s- purple-or-not colour that’s all over magazines, shop windows and celebs. And I seem to be at that someone’s mercy ! After all I suppose we should thank them for messing around with our minds, I mean, what would I do with the contents of my overflowing bank account otherwise ?! Ugh. I’m doomed. I’ve shown you my new hat already and I’ve told you I’m going to be making a burgundy tutu, now here’s a list of a few things I have seen in the shops or online. I love each one of these pieces and think about them very hard before I go to bed in the hope they’ll be there by my side when I wake up in the morning. No luck so far – but I bet Santa turns up in a burgundy suit this year ! Enjoy ! 1. Velvet boots : H&M // 2. Scarf : Asos PROMO // 3. Trousers : New Look // 4. Coat : Object Collectors Item  // 5. Don’t leave me without having a click on the blue button in the sidebar !! When it goes BURGUNDY (well, purple), you’ll know you’ve voted for me in the French Golden Blog Awards and that I LOVE you very much ! ♥ Have a good week-end ! xx – – – – – –

Shopping : Coat nominations 2012

Every Winter I just feel like hibernating. I know other people say this because they don’t like wintertime, I say it because I do. I even like rainy days in Summer, to be honest, but let’s not go there because a lot of you are still crying over our short Summer. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is : I’m a coat girl. Yummy, snuggly, warm, furry, cuddly coats. I already have quite a few in my wardrobe (I wish they’d go away so I can reasonably buy a new one !) but I think they’re going to have to make way for a new friend sometime soon… Yes, it’s that time of the year : The coat nominations 2012 ! Picking a coat is such a difficult choice. Coats are most likely the most worn item in Winter (if you’re not counting Hunter boots) and are basically the first impression you give for about 4 months ! OK, you can have more than one (and that’s where my stock of old friends comes in), but let’s face it, choosing a coat is one of the most difficult decisions of the year to say the least. That is considering the other decisions you have to make are A/ whether or not to have your hair trimmed when you’re actually trying to grow it, B/ whether or not to call your friend even though she’s been a bitch lately and C/ whether or not to tell your mom you didn’t really win your latest Chanel clutch in a raffle. Anyway, straight back to the point… Let’s not make any mistakes. And the nominees are : Rock chick : Manoush Barbie doll : Tara Jarmon Miss hairy : Sud Express And in the WTF category (rest assured, these I will NOT be buying), I call : (And no I’m not telling you where they come from, I don’t want to take part in your social suicide.) Whilst we’re at it, here’s a jacket I am totally in ♥ with atm… A classic from Asos I actually don’t think I’m ready to make a decision yet. Way too much pressure ! xx – – – – – –

DIY : My ideal army jacket

Army style’s back in and I’ve already started stealing my bf’s khaki green jacket. However, I’m not that keen on walking down the street and noticing every other girl is wearing just about the same coat as me. So, I’ve been dreaming up something a little more original… And it’s definitely going to include some serious DIYing. See my day dream doodle below : Military jacket by Topshop – DIY design by CNC So the idea is to embellish a dark green jacket with lighter greens and pinks – a nice girly twist to the military garment. Although the design screams embroidery, you know me… I’m not one to use old granny methods ! I like to do it the fast and furious way and I have a few ideas… To be continued ! xx – – – – – –

Lookbook : It’s Spring again

I’m loving this mid-season weather in London – just like Spring ! I always think boots with skirts and dresses look odd in Winter – either it’s boot weather or it’s dress weather, right ?! – but today I’m making the most of the last days of sun to break my own rule. Studded leather boots and a mini-skirt, yes sir ! Mini-dress by IKKS Top by Warehouse Bag vintage Shoes by Zara xx – – – – – –

DIY : Studded leather clutch

As soon as I saw this faux leather clutch at H&M, I felt there was something missing : STUDS. Yes, what’s a leather clutch with no studs this season ? Naked ! So I bought it and DEALT WITH IT. Boom. Waddya think ? I used a mix of silver and gold coloured studs for a very 2012 effect and criss-crossed them in a chesterfield manor – I love the way the faux leather creased in diamond shapes to match. The feel is very Alexander Mcqueen, in fact it would have looked great with a skull in the middle of the studs ! xx – – – – – –

Shopping : Looking for the perfect pink sweater

Although I still have a week of French Summer before me, I can’t stop thinking about my outfits for the upcoming season. Never mind the blazing sun and sparkling pool outside my door, bring on skinny jeans, leather boots, endless scarves and cozy sweaters ! Although I love the grungy colours around this Autumn, I will undoubtedly be wearing bright colours all Winter through – I can’t lock colour away for a week nevermind a whole season ! And one of the items I’ve been dreaming of is a bright pink – I mean BRIGHT pink – sweater loosely knitted out of fluffy wool, like mohair or alpaca. So far, I have yet to encounter the jumper of my dreams but have thought of knitting it up myself. Who knows, maybe my roadtrip around Scotland next week will lead me to the perfect wool. Meanwhile, here are a few i conjured up on trendy-workshop.com : I like the graphics and the pink / red / salmony mix, but I still want a bold bright pink, almost neon knit. Which one’s your fav’ ? xx – – – – – –

Trendspotting : Stones // Les pierres

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but I reakon diamonds have had their nose pushed out of joint ! Raiding the usual online boutiques, I’ve come across 50 shades of green, purple, blue, red and yellow, trapped inside cut glass or precious stone and clasped onto gold and silver findings. However, you know what Miss Catwalk is like, she likes to dazzle and surprise. This year’s shows saw jewels not only on wrists, fingers and necks but also… everywhere else ! So bags, tops, dresses, shoes and anything else you can think of are glamorously embellished – candy for the eye (and an easy trend to DIY) ! WHAT ?! Chunky cuts, dripping drops and sparkling speckles of rich colour set in precious metal… It’s funny how fashion reflects abundance in a time of economic distress. When times become hard, signs of ease become literally bigger, separating the rich and poor at the glimpse of a hand. Of course nowadays we have highstreet fashion – an godsend for those of us who cannot afford to accessorize each season’s wardrobe with the latest luxuries. WHO ?! Yves Saint Laurent has brought out a stunning new collection of  “Arty Ovel Rings” – an extremely bold statement : Yves Saint Laurent a sorti une collection de bagues hors du commun, les “Arty Oval Rings” (“bagues ovales artistiques”) – elles parlent d’elles-mêmes : Etro have some incredible necklaces, Erikson Beamon some very original rings and Marni some sophisticated amber accessories. But really, all you have to do is click on the jewelry selection on net-a-porter.com and you’ll see the most amazing choice of jewels of all sorts ! On the cheaper end of the market, Topshop, Asos, River Island and all the other usual favorites have done a good job of offering more affordable pieces, check out the “Jewels for under £30” selection below : Etro présente des pièces magnifiques tout comme Erikson Beamon et Marni. I don’t like to go over the top on fake luxury and I certainly can’t afford the real thing but some of the above pieces are pretty well thought up and I have also had a bit of a go at DIYing gems too – take a loot at this : nail polish painted over a diamante necklace : Je n’aime pas trop le fake mais je dois avouer que la sélection au-dessus contient pas mal de choses que je me ferais un plaisir de porter. J’ai aussi tenté le DIY avec un collier en verre repeint avec du vernis à ongles : – – – – – –
