I’m always shocked amazed surprised when I realise how much influence trends have on our tastes. However hard you try to stand out, you’re always part of one movement or another, always part of a trend or an anti-trend… I’ve told you before, but I’ll tell you again – I used to SWEAR I would never wear slim jeans… Ahem. How many people truly stay away from fashion and manage to create their own style ?! Not many people even particularly feel the need to wear something very unusual and unless your name is Gaga it’s better not to walk around wearing meat dresses anyway. Let’s face it, whatever our attempts to be “original”, we’re all fashion victims (that scene about cerulean blue in The Devil Wears Prada seems to come to mind…). Anyway, suicidal monologue aside, this topic came up because I would like to talk to you about my love-hate relationship with the new red. Burgundy, so to speak. In other words, that UGLY colour I’ve always loathed… and that I now crave on a daily basis. Now you see where I’m coming from. Someone up there, way up high, has decided that I would now love the dark-red / brown / can’t-quite-decide-if-it’s- purple-or-not colour that’s all over magazines, shop windows and celebs. And I seem to be at that someone’s mercy ! After all I suppose we should thank them for messing around with our minds, I mean, what would I do with the contents of my overflowing bank account otherwise ?! Ugh. I’m doomed. I’ve shown you my new hat already and I’ve told you I’m going to be making a burgundy tutu, now here’s a list of a few things I have seen in the shops or online. I love each one of these pieces and think about them very hard before I go to bed in the hope they’ll be there by my side when I wake up in the morning. No luck so far – but I bet Santa turns up in a burgundy suit this year ! Enjoy ! 1. Velvet boots : H&M // 2. Scarf : Asos PROMO // 3. Trousers : New Look // 4. Coat : Object Collectors Item // 5. I first saw these leather shopping bags a few years ago and loved the idea straight away. Not only is it quirky but it’s also ecological and classy – you never know who you might meet when topping up on fruit and veg ! I hope you like it ! I thought it was about time I showed you a sewing DIY again and seeing as my machine was out from me doing a tutorial for Marie Claire last week-end… suspense… more info soon ! xx – – – – – –DIY : A leather carrier bag (Or grocery bag for you Yankies ;-)
As soon as I saw this faux leather clutch at H&M, I felt there was something missing : STUDS. Yes, what’s a leather clutch with no studs this season ? Naked ! So I bought it and DEALT WITH IT. Boom. Waddya think ? I used a mix of silver and gold coloured studs for a very 2012 effect and criss-crossed them in a chesterfield manor – I love the way the faux leather creased in diamond shapes to match. The feel is very Alexander Mcqueen, in fact it would have looked great with a skull in the middle of the studs ! xx – – – – – –DIY : Studded leather clutch
For the first time this year, I will NOT be going back to school. Or high school, or college, or uni, or anywhere different than WORK ! But for some reason I don’t feel all that grown up, and I still keep thinking I have to plan what I’ll be wearing on my first day back at school (YES, I always planned this weeks in advance !). The first day back at school was always an important day dress code wise. It’s either the day you meet a whole new crowd of people – and first impressions really do seem to count when you’re friend-picking, right ? – or it’s the day you show that crowd who you became over the Summer. My birthday is on September 3rd so I was lucky to always receive a new pair of shoes and a few other things I’d been desperate for and would usually turn up at school all brand new (until I went through my “brand new is uncool” phase – that didn’t last !). Usually I would follow a plan, in order to give the exact impression I was looking for – but really it was all just a bit of wardrobe fun ! This brings me to my Back to School Trendspotting series : over the next couple of weeks, let’s take a look at a few different back to school outfit ideas so that, if you’re setting foot back at high school, college, uni or even work, you too can tell them where it’s at ! The goody two shoes, a.k.a GTS Pearls, peplum, skinny jeans and ballet flats – white dresses and wedges – a splash of red lace and basics – the GTS is looking sweet this year, au naturel with a quirky smile ! April 26th and I’m online queuing at H&M. The Fashion Against Aids collection came out this morning at 9am and WOW did it go fast. When I managed to actually get online I had to hurry – in fact the top I wanted most sold out whilst in my basket ! Unfair ! Anyway, this is what I managed to grab despite the virtual crowd, for a mere £20.00 and all for a good cause (well, my wardrobe thinks so anyway!). The downside : Delivery isn’t until JUNE ! / Le point négatif : Pas de livraison avant JUIN ! Don’t forget to follow my shopping adventures on Facebook, loads of tips and great sites coming your way ! xx – – – – – –Shopping : My H&M Fashion Against Aids selection
Have you ever wanted to wear something but not “had the guts” ? Have you ever wondered what other people would think if you did ? Have you ever looked at someone with admiration and a pinch of jealousy ? Was it because they were wearing something you would love to wear ? Or was it because they were daring something you would love to dare ? Have you ever thought you can’t pull it off ? Have you ever secretly thought it would suit you too ? Have you ever wished you had more style ? Have you ever cringed when a friend wants the same top or bag ? Then why do you shop in the same place as them ? Have you tried anything different ? I repeat. Have you EVER EVEN TRIED something different ? If your answer to this last question is no, then read my blog. If your answer to this is yes, then please keep it up and read my blog. I hope that this blog will INSPIRE you.Clones and Clowns and Blogs, oh my !
