Morning my pretties I hope you are all very well and ready to discuss weddings! FOUR MONTHS TO GO! Now the venue is sorted, the food already in the oven and even the flowers booked it feels like I can start to relax. NOT. There are still one million things to think about including of course the most important part of the day: my appearance! With both my dress and shoes ordered, the time has come for me to give my face and body some serious thought and thankfully there are some fantastic brands out there to help me! My search engine results range from ‘DIY wedding makeup’ to ‘hydrating finishing spray’ and of course the inevitable ‘best waterproof mascaras 2015’… and despite the endless results I’m starting to discover some seriously cool products. In fact some of them have already made it into my day-to-day. But if there’s one thing I’ve learnt during the whole wedding process, it’s that even when you think you’ve thought of everything… you haven’t. And that’s where I’m so glad JOHNSON & JOHNSON offered me a trial of their 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ Contact Lenses. Now you see I’ve been so focused on figuring out how I’m going to make sure my eyeliner doesn’t smudge that I never thought of the fact it might be quite nice to actually SEE the person I’m marrying rather than a blur of a smiling suit. I joke… My eyes don’t actually have a very strong prescription so I was going naked-eyed for the day. But that was until I discovered these particular lenses. The first ones I’ve ever tried in fact. And I’m hooked! Wedding days are all about looking the best version of you, right? So I’m not about to go and plonk bright turquoise lenses on my eyes considering they’re naturally more of a grey-blue… I want to recognise myself in the pictures. As well as correcting your sight, the way 1-DAY ACUVUE® DEFINE™ Contact Lenses work is by enhancing your natural eye colour. So clever! They have two versions – shimmer and sparkle – and I tried the sparkle version and just couldn’t believe the difference! Not only could I see perfectly without glasses (hey I’m allowed to get excited about this, remember I was a contact lense virgin until now), but my eyes look so perfectly defined… Like someone had slightly tweaked the filter contrast so that the blue is more blue and the white more white… But in a most natural way. With left – Without right “The lens is designed provide a more defined limbal ring (edge around the coloured part of the eye) creating a stronger contrast to the white part of your eye – which will make you look more fresh/awake, while at the same time giving the illusion that your eyes (iris – coloured part of the eye) are bigger. The lens is designed with an iris-inspired pattern which will almost blend with you natural eye, not masking it like other contact lenses, to enhance and bring out your natural beauty. Keeping in mind that every iris (coloured part of your eye) is unique (like a finger print) so everyone will have a different experience and look.” I’m stunned by how natural the difference looks, what do you think? With both eyes Whilst the sparkle was a perfect fit for me, giving my eyes extra depth and definition, I’d suggest trying the shimmer too as both have different effects on different eyes. Seeing fellow bloggers try the lenses on I realised just how different the results could be – some even liked the idea of using one as a day version and the other for going out. I’m definitely going to be wearing these to enhance my loving gaze on my wedding day – I’ve even checked with the team that they’ll be OK if I cry and the answer is YES, absolutely fine. Cue endless tears of joy. Love from London, Aimee in collaboration with NEW 1-DAY JOHNSON & JOHNSON ACUVUE® DEFINE™ to enhance the natural beauty of your eyes. Inspired by the beauty of the natural eye, the lens combines a dark ring around the coloured portion of your eye with a luminous-effect pattern, resulting in a brighter, more memorable you. Choose from one of two designs to suit your eye colour. NATURAL SHIMMER™ for more depth and intensity or NATURAL SPARKLE™ to add a luminous brightening effect. Wellllll… What a month of spending! Presents, Xmas parties, drinks galore and new (usually sequin-embellished) clothes to wear to each and every outing… Needless to say there is no way I have managed to put as much aside as I was hoping to this month. Again. But next year, readers, we have a wedding to plan! And I need to make sure I’m saving enough money for the big day as well as for my life as a wife! I mean come on, that designer wedding dress is not just going to land on my doorstep… Hard work is how the modern Cinderella finds her way to the ball! And buying a house flat in London seems like the most challenging investment in the World when you’re on the same side of it as I am. Savings accounts and tax efficient ISA‘s are just so important at our age, and there are a few app’s I’m going to be using throughout 2015 to make sure I reach my financial goals. Official bank apps I have the HSBC one and it’s pretty good for real time spending because it shows me exactly how much money is on my account but also how much is available if I have spent money that has not yet been taken. Because there comes a time when you have the face the fact that whatever the state of your account, you’re better off in the know! I’m going to quit hiding my head in the sand in 2015 and will be checking my account on a daily basis on my phone to see where my spending’s at. This should only take a few minutes on the bus each morning and should mean I’m in the right state of mind to look after my dosh. Money management apps I have finally come to realise that saving means planning. Gosh am I getting old and wise. I guess managing your own finances is a little bit like having a business: you have to forecast. And there are many apps out there to help us shopaholics see how much we can spend on handbags and how much we need to put aside to reach our goals. I also find that apps such as MoneyWiz (which I’ve just downloaded and like so far) really help you appreciate just how much money you spend on different areas of your life. For example, looking at the graphs, I have had shocking news with regards to the amount of money I spend on taxis… You know what they say: if you can’t walk in heels, grab a cab! But maybe I should revert to trainers more often 😉 Anyway, money management apps will definitely be my new besties in the year to come, making sure I know exactly where my precious pennies ‘disappear’ to! Bring on the bargains! There are so many apps out there designed to help you save/spend money. I say ‘save/spend’ because of course they also encourage you to spend more than you initially had intended to if they prompt you to splash out on a spontaneous holiday… However when used within reason they really can help you save a few dols and I am definitely going to be replacing Net-A-Porter with the Outnet app as well as making virtual space in my life for the likes of Vente Privee, Secret Escapes and Very Chic! Talking about low-cost, the EasyJet app is pretty handy for a last minute getaways too. Well, if you’re going to spend money, you might as well spend less! So, here’s to a new year of sensible Aimee! Hey – I can hear you doubting me in the back row.. 😉 xxNew year’s resolutions: Save Money!
*INSERT RANT ABOUT SUDDEN DROP IN TEMPERATURE* The time has come for cups of warm milk, hot water bottles and wooly socks! Baby it’s cold outside, and there’s nothing like snuggling up in the Winter for a cosy night at home. Lately I’ve been trying to make sure comfy doesn’t rhyme with frumpy – an easy Winter trap. Beautiful knits, soft threads and loose yet fashionable cuts are the perfect choice when you want to look like a superstar when watching Netflix. Purchasing comfortable yet chic clothing is also a great investment when traveling – yes, I’m thinking of the hours I’ll be spending on the train or in the car over Xmas… You can snuggle up and still look the part when you arrive at your destination! Enough said – bring on the cuddly clothing… All from Avenue 32, a one-stop-shop for quality clothing designed by up-and-coming designers. Long time, no speak! And I’m back with some fantastic news! Monsieur Marcel and I are engaged! Get ready for this blog to go weddinglistic! Our romantic story involves a surprise weekend, a taxi going in the ‘wrong’ direction, a Beatles song, a white shirt, a leather jacket, a trip back to the first I love you, a proposal that made me overflow with tears of joy, a YES, a beautiful Chaumet white gold and diamond ring, more tears of joy down the phone to my family, another taxi to another unknown destination, an afternoon at a luxurious spa staring at the dazzling thing on my finger, bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles, rose petals, a night in the Rennaissance Hotel at St Pancras and the two happiest people on Earth. So, looks like we have a wedding to plan! And by us, I mean Monsieur Marcel, myself, and YOU! We’ve been engaged for a couple of months now and as the idea starts to sink in (it takes SO much longer than you might expect!) we’re starting to plan our wedding for end of Summer 2015. We’ll be getting married in France as I felt it was important for us to both go ‘home’ for what will be one of the most memorable days of our lives. Beautiful Ted Baker dress from John Lewis here. To be continued… Thanks to Chrstiana from TheLifestyleDirectory for these pics, taken at St Pancras station. Actually, Christiana has some news for you too… xx, AimeeWe’re engaged!
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens… ♬♬♬ When it comes to a smiley face I’m more than a giver – even though this blog makes me look a little more pouty than I am in real life ! It’s never easy to give a full-on smile to a camera lens but grinning at my favourite things is a day-to-day habit I have and intend on keeping. In fact I have been caught by more than one bus-stranger smiling away on my own thinking of a loved one or a fond memory. I truly believe smiling makes life more pleasant, even on the toughest of days. I once read that forcing your face muscles to smile sends positive vibes to your brain, tricking those hormones into happy-mode ! So smiling is more than just a whim, it can be a clever trick. When Colgate asked a few happy bloggers to make a video of what made them smile, I knew the challenge could be easily accepted. In fact, my whole Instagram account is more or less a diary of things that make me smile… I snap away at flowers, shoes, DIY projects, pretty homes and London landscapes… Here is the compilation I created for the Colgate #MAXWHITESMILE campaign including all of those things, a bagel, a green smoothie, an early Spring BBQ, my gorgeous man and more : Have you ever noticed how a smile is genuinely a girl’s (or anyone’s !) best accessory?! I always admire people who are comfortable enough to simply smile their way through life, whatever the situation, however bad the hair day, however intimidating the people opposite. I aim to smile as much as possible on a daily basis, whether it’s to make someone else feel good or to get the positive juices flowing for my own sake. As a rule I always look on the bright side of life and I guess Colgate Max White One Optic (that’s a mouthful – pun intended !) is the perfect way to make sure your smile shines bright like a diamond. Yep, three songs in one post. Nailed it. Colgate Max White One Optic is the simple answer to an instantly visible whiter smile. Buy it in high street chemists or most major supermarkets, priced at around £4.49. xx Love from smiley London, Aimee Disclosure: Compensation was provided by Colgate via Glam Media. Breaking news : pastel colours are taking over the blog ! I’m so inspired by this beautiful weather we’ve been having and uber ready (yes UBER ready) for some proper pretty pastels… Summer is on its way lovely readers, let’s celebrate ! Images from Food Network Magazine. To kick off this pastel frenzy, here are a few pretty pictures I have been keeping in my INSPIRATION file for almost a year already… Can you see what they are ?! (The clue is in the title…) : PASTEL FROSTING ! Who would have guessed you could make such beautiful colours with your average blue / red / yellow / green supermarket colouring ?! I’m really impressed with how delicious these hues look, so poetic and refreshing… I think the only reason I haven’t yet made any of these frostings is because I tend to steer clear of artificial colouring. You might guess I’m tempted to make a chart of my own using natural colouring and juices… Stay tuned ! Isn’t it funny how even the “less is more” trend has us craving for new. Here is my list of “back to basic” needs… 1. A yellow Pliage Longchamp. I have had the black one for years and it is so reliable… I just can’t resist the new lemon version. 2. Une Beauty have brought out nail polishes inspired by the colour of skin. Nice and nude, gotta try it. 3. I NEED some basic heels. I don’t know how long they’ll last without getting DIYed to death, but they’re on the top of my wishlist for Spring. 4. This dress is perfection. Simple, navy blue with a peekaboo back and a huge bow. 5. This bracelet is too cute. Thin gold chain with a crown for the every day princess. 6. Considering white trousers are THE basic to get your hands on this season, I guessed I might as well get a pair from the King of all things basic : Petit Bateau. 6, puisque le pantalon blanc devient LE basic de la nouvelle saison, autant s’équiper chez Petit Bateau, les rois du simple réussi. 7. You’ve got to love this soft belt by American Vintage. Knot it around your shorts or your floppy dress and you’re ready to go. 8. I reckon eating healthily is the best way to simplify your lifestyle. Everything seems to click into place when you have a clean diet. Honestly Healthy is the next book on my detox list. 9. Raw food is a clean trend – talk about minimalist cooking ! Raw Food Kitchen is another book I’m coveting. 10. This is like ending with the beginning. Converse shoes were my first love and once again I’m needing a pair of plain black in my life. Come back to me, my pretties ! That’s all for today, but come back tomorrow to see how I made something out of (next to) nothing 🙂 xx Aimee PS – I arrived in the Caribbean last night, follow me on Instagram for your daily dose of sunshine !Minima-wishlist
Put your hand up if you’ve got a cold ?! If you’ve got bags under your eyes ?! If you’re ready for Spring already ?!….. My hands are flying high…. This morning, instead of adding a fizzy orange pill into my glass of water, I discovered Striiiipes ! I fell in love straight away, mainly because I love the idea of wrapping up in a piece of fruit silk scarf right now, but also because the bright retro designs are gorgeous. You can see the other two designs on Striiiipes.com Love from Paris, xx AimeeI
