Cosy nights in… style!

*INSERT RANT ABOUT SUDDEN DROP IN TEMPERATURE* The time has come for cups of warm milk, hot water bottles and wooly socks! Baby it’s cold outside, and there’s nothing like snuggling up in the Winter for a cosy night at home. Lately I’ve been trying to make sure comfy doesn’t rhyme with frumpy – an easy Winter trap. Beautiful knits, soft threads and loose yet fashionable cuts are the perfect choice when you want to look like a superstar when watching Netflix. Purchasing comfortable yet chic clothing is also a great investment when traveling – yes, I’m thinking of the hours I’ll be spending on the train or in the car over Xmas… You can snuggle up and still look the part when you arrive at your destination! Enough said – bring on the cuddly clothing… All from Avenue 32, a one-stop-shop for quality clothing designed by up-and-coming designers. Autumn fun

Autumn fashion really is the best. Cosy layers and soft snuggly materials… This year more than ever I’ve been having fun with my mid season outfits, adding pops of colour and playful prints. I used to always switch to a more boring version or myself in Autumn Winter. “Oh, it’s raining, I’ll wear black.” or “Well the sky’s grey, I may as well walk around looking like I’m a part of it”. But lately I’ve enjoyed reds, greens and even bright blue… I realised it was a good idea to keep up the colourful wear when a guy in Victoria station stopped me one morning on the way to work to kindly say “It’s so nice to see someone wearing a bit of colour, thank you for brightening up my morning!”. Adding bright pink to the mix with my blushing cheeks I looked around and indeed the whole station was black. Talking of colour, I have FINALLY joined the rest of the women in this material world: I HAVE A TARTAN SKIRT. I’ve been drooling over tartan prints for the past couple of years but didn’t think the trend would last… Shame on me! It’s well and truly here to stay! I enjoyed pairing it with sequins here for a playful weekend outfit. Details of my outfit: Hat: TU Sequin top: TopShop Tartan Skirt: TU available here Tights: Boots (3 for 2) Shiny shoes: TU Coat: TU available here To top it off – literally – I wore this cute little deer wooly hat. I just love it! I seem to be a sucker for animals in Winter… I have sheep slippers that I swap for reindeer slippers come Xmas and even thought they’re worn out and – admittedly – rather gross, I just can’t seem to get rid of them! Deer are so trendy these days, but I love that this particular cutie isn’t all about the silhouette – it’s just a sweet little face with ears! Too much love. And fun. And warmth. How about you, do you have fun with colour and prints in Autumn Winter or does the weather get you down? Love from London, xx Aimee Compensation was provided by Sainsbury’s via Mode Media. Outfit du jour: Last lace

Something about the raindrops on my window tell me we may have had our last chance to wear lace this Summer… And oh what a lacey season it has been. This beautiful dress was a gift from a French brand I adore – Sud Express. If you have never heard of them, check out their website – they’re specialised in a casual-chic style only the French get right. This dress is definitely going in the “keep for next year” pile and given its classic cut and quality it’s bound to become a Summer staple in the CNC wardrobe. I have loved pairing this with sandals and a tote for a casual boho look and then switching to night attire by simply adding heels and a clutch. Don’t you just love an all-rounder? Unfortunately it looks like I may have worn my lace for the last time this year – but this can only mean it’s time for me to introduce you to my new umbrella. YES, a new umbrella can be exciting. Wait until you see it. I’ll be showing you a whole range of new goodies tomorrow on CNC so stay tuned! Love from London, Aimee

Outfit du Jour: Total Leo

After going all white I’m going all leo with this outfit du jour again shot in Shoreditch. I couldn’t wait to take pics of this jumpsuit since I fell in love with it the minute it caught my eye. I saw it, tried it and bought it in under 15 minutes. But then it took me a couple of weeks to actually wear it… Wearing a leopard jumpsuit is not the easiest thing to pull off which is why I thank London for its lack of judgement. I probably wouldn’t wear this outfit in Paris since over there eyes linger a little too long for my comfort. Up and down they go, reminding you of how confident you have to be in what you chose to wear. Maybe that’s why the Parisians swear by basics? A chic yet safe choice? Either way, I find London liberating in the sense that if I want to wear leopard print from head to toe and not get stared at I can simply go ahead and pull on this outfit. Well, in Shoreditch that is. Not so sure what the crowds in Chelsea would have to say! The other place I’ll be wearing this outfit is on holiday when I fly off into the sun in a couple of weeks. With a pair of oversized sunnies it’s the perfect incognito-airport look. So comfy and yet still stylish. Love it. Outfit du Jour: Simple style in Shoreditch

Good morning ! It’s time for another outfit du jour this week and today I’m thanking the lovely C from new blog The Lifestyle Directory for taking these pictures of me last weekend after lunch (or rather – granola) at Hoi Polloi. Though Shoreditch is usually known for its crazy outfits and bright colours, I was feeling pretty casual. In fact I’m never really up for the satorial competition that goes down in East London, I’d much rather be wearing my jeans, trainers and glasses – so that I can secretly stare at the amazing people around me. You gotta love people-watching in London, there really is nothing like it. Of course Paris is on of a kind for streetstyle too, but that’s a whole different story. London is so bright, bold and surprising. Forget your judgement at home and come as you are! Which is what I did. And I was glad to get some use out of my dungarees after leaving them on their hanger for way too many weeks in a row.The detail I love most about this pair of dungees would be the roll-up on the legs. It actually stays in place – which is not a given in the world of denim shorts, believe me I’ve had my share of days spent constantly bending down to get that scrunch just right… Not cool.As for the shopping of this outfit du jour, my dungarees came from Pull & Bear so cheekily cost me no more than £25 which I consider to be an absolute bargain for an item I love to wear in so many ways. My bodysuit is a basic black one from American Apparel, my shoes are by Ugg (!!!) and my sunnies from Zara’s Summer collection on sale in stores now. See you back here tomorrow, thanks for stopping by 🙂 Love from London, Aimee

Outfit du jour: DECLUTTERED

Two posts in a row, we must be dreaming…! Well actually pinch yourselves peeps, I’m back for good! And today I return with an outfit which is something I hadn’t shared for a very long time. In fact, since I last posted an outfit on here a whole load of stuff has gone down in my wardrobe… I have totally decluttered. As in TOTALLY. Imagine one draw and one rail. Twenty hangers. Boom. THAT’s how decluttered it got. Scary, I know. I mean give me the clutter already, gosh… Do you realise, I literally gave away 6 bags of clothes and countless pairs of shoes… And it actually felt so GOOD to get rid of all that STUFF! What’s that I see ? A FLOOR ? No way, I’ve always wanted one of those ! And since then shopping has been minimal and well-thought… So un-me I know. Well, more like very neo-me. But anyway. Funnily enough, the whole wardrobe detox has actually meant I got rid of a lot of colour I had (but never used to wear) and haven’t really bought back since. My boyf is admittedly missing the brighter me but I’m actually really enjoying a more soothing style.. I have also totally given in to the fact that I will never be an elegant chick… Nope, never. *Cries, blows nose and mans up to the truth*. I have decided that at my old age of 26-nearly-27 it’s just not going to happen. Except maybe on my wedding day, we’ll see. Meanwhile, I love comfy and loose just too much so this outfit was the perfect weekend pick. White may not flatter my pale skin, the cuts may look frumpy to some and I may well be wearing teenager-tumblr-girl shoes on my feet but for my Saturday afternoon this was ideal. And the light shades did NOT stop me from rolling lazing around in the grass all day after this either.  Top – Pull & Bear Shorts & sunnies- Zara Bag – Lov Organic Shoes – Vans I could literally wear these shoes for the rest of my life there would be no complaints from me! That’s love. Have you decluttered your wardrobe recently? What do you think of this Summer’s total white trend? Looking forward to reading your thoughts – it’s been too long since we had a chat 🙂 Love from London, Aimee

Vanessa and me

Good morning readers, long time no bloggin’ ! I hope you’re well, and thanks for sticking around whilst I was running around like a headless chicken. Lots going on over here, I’ll update you one of these days… 😉 Meanwhile, there’s no time like the present to introduce you to my new best friend. Yep, I leave you for a couple of weeks and I come back with a new BFF ! And believe me, she’s the one… My new Vanessa <3 My navy blue, eyelet studde leather Vanessa Bruno handbag. This is L.O.V.E. I had been looking for a new bag for a while now, waiting for that ONE to come along. All I knew is that it had to be leather and wearable on a daily basis. I was getting tired of bag-swapping, especially since I always lose something during the swap… Keys, phone, charger… You name it, it goes missing when I swap bags. So in the name of good organisation, I decided I needed a go to bag. So the search began. After months of searching for the right bag for me, I fell in love in Paris (as you do !). I had got used to popping in and out of bag shops, just in case my ONE was in there. I didn’t know what I was looking for, but I knew I’d know it when I saw it. And indeed I did. After trying on a beautiful powder pink Vanessa Bruno sequin bag that I just managed to resist, I fell upon this beautiful leather version of the classic Vanessa Bruno shopper. With eyelets studded around the frame, instead of the classic sequins. And that was it, in five minutes flat, I had a new bag. They say you know love when you see it, and I most certainly did ! Have you ever seen / bought the bag of your dreams ?! What do you think of my new friend Vanessa ? Lots of love from London, Aimee & Vaness’

DIY studded heels a la Valentino

Holà chicas ! How about a bit of rock ‘n’ roll on this fine Wednesday morning ? Oh no, I don’t mean tons of spikes and a full black pencil under each eye… I’m trying hard to leave my rockstar dreams behind me and become a laydeeee. Which is why I recently decorated a pair of high heels a la Valentino for a French magazine. I love the result and just had to share on my blog too – such an easy way to customise shoes and yet such a trendy result ! Of course you could also see this as a tutorial showing you how to stick studs to anything flat that you cannot poke them through. To make your own Valentino inspired studded heels, YOU WILL NEED : – Studs – Accessory glue (strong stuff!) – Shoes with straps Step 1 : The key to this tutorial is in this easy step : fold the spokes of the studs in. You don’t want to push them all the way up but only to the point that they can be stuck onto your shoes, so at a right angle. This way your stud has more to stick to the shoe than just the border of the square shape and the result will last much longer. Step 2 : Squeeze a drop of glue onto your shoe, and not your stud. If you fill the stud with glue there is a high chance of it overflowing onto the shoe and damaging the (faux) leather. Keep it clean, glue the shoe, not the stud ! Step 3 : Now stick your stud to the shoe. You can stick your studs wherever you like, you don’t need me to tell you that ! However for the perfect Valentino result, stick to embellishing the straps and around the shoe opening. Step 4 : Add more studs. It’s starting to look good ! Finally leave your shoes to dry overnight and make sure the studs are correctly stuck before wearing them with pride (and a much healthier bank account than if they were the real deal !). The shoes I bought to customise are super super high so I’m still getting used to them but they look awesome and have got me some kind compliments already ! That’s all for today, rockstars ! DIY heart printed socks

Having a warm heart starts with keeping your tootsies toasty so this is the perfect DIY if you’re getting tired of the winter chill. You could either wear these out on Valentine’s day (they’re not the sexiest outfit in town but they’re definitely adorable!!) or wear them to cosy around and watch chick flicks with your girlfriends. Or of course you could simply stuff them in your sock drawer and have a nice surprise from time to time. Either way, they’re the perfect dose of oh so cute when the world is going crazy about lurve. To make these heart print socks, YOU WILL NEED : – A pair of socks to print – Acrylic paint, diluted with a drop of water. You want your paint to be still quite thick, but dilluted enough for the sponge to absorb it. Add the water drop by drop and see how it goes, you can always add more but you can’t take it back out ! – A sponge – Paper, a pen, scissors to make your stencil Step 1 : Fold the paper in half and draw half a heart on the folded edge. Step 2 : Cut out the heart to make your stencil. You can use the cut out heart as a (very) last minute Valentine’s card 😉 Step 3 : When you buy socks, they are usually folded on the top and bottom so they stay nice and flat and have that V shape. We want to unfold the socks and lay them flat, the way you would wear them. Note : This is a good time to put some flat newspaper in your socks to prevent the paint going through both layers. Step 4 : Place the stencil on the socks so that each sock has half a heart over it. You want the edges of your socks to join in the middle of the heart. Step 5 : Dip your sponge in the paint and stamp over the stencil. Step 6 : Remove the stencil and leave to dry overnight. Remove the newspaper when dry. A note on acrylic paint : You can wash your socks printed with acrylic paint and your design should stay put. It will not dye other items in the wash. Using acrylic paint is the best option for this project because using a more liquid fabric paint or using dye would result is a much more blended heart. I like how acrylic paint allows you to get clean lines without the fabric absorbing it in and blending the outlines. Final step : Wear one sock on each foot (the right way round!!) and curl up in a cosy blanket before taking foot-selfies and posting them on Instagram ! Be sure to tag me in if you do 😉 -> @clonesnclownsblog I hope you like this cosy DIY, see you tomorrow for a soothing recipe <3 Love from the bottom of my socks, Aimee

WIWTW : Cocooning at work

Part of the awesomeness of working freelance is that when the weekend seems too short you can always work in comfort. Winter is starting to take its toll, my nose has a sniffle and my eyes are watery. Instead of pointy heels and leather trousers, this week I’m opting for something a little bit more comfortable… Now don’t go imagining me sitting in my PJs with a pot of nutella and a spoon – I have work to do and it shall be done ! But there’s no way I’ll manage without a snuggly outfit and a hot drink. This week’s cosy working girl outfit is made up of my latest sales purchase, a warm Carol jumper in a beautiful grey knit. Perfect for a snuggly day working on the sofa but also smart enough to meet clients when needed. On my bottom half are the timeless Leigh jeans from Topshop in a soft, slate grey… I don’t know what I’d do without these reliable slacks. On my feet I have the choice between cute sheep slippers from Primark and soft tulle pompom pumps I customised myself… One for staying in, the other for going out. Guess which I’m wearing now ?! And for that extra touch, I pulled on my leather and PVC bracelets – totally miss-match, totally me. In my mug this week, I’m needing something soothing. I’ll post the recipe to this homemade warm milk with a twist later on in the week – it’s my hazelnut beverage’s number one competitor at the moment ! In my spare time and instead of the aggressive light of an iPad this week I’m enjoying a book by Antal Szerb, I just love Pushkin publications and really need to get lost in a paperback right now. I am using my Oyster card as a bookmark so that I make sure I take my book every time I go out… On my face this week it’s out with the unnecessary junk and in with Elizabeth Arden’s 8 hour creams, they do my skin wonders. Finally, a light spritz of Trésor In Love by Lancome and a few post-its that read TAKE IT EASY ! See you tomorrow for a cute ‘n’ cosy DIY ! xx Aimee
