Last minute Halloween inspiration : Dress like a celeb

I’ve been sharing tons of Halloween inspiration with you guys over on my Halloween page (here) and on my Halloween Pinterest board (here). There are so many Halloween DIYs out there for the creative that I felt I needed to offer something a little different, too – something for the less inspired ! Some people have such brilliant ideas at Halloween time and go all out putting together the most incredible costumes and spending hours on preparing their night out. Others however either lack means, ideas and time… So here’s one for you, busy bees ! Dressing up as a celeb can be tricky but if you get right you’ll get people coming over to you guessing who you are, having photos taken with you and generally complimenting your choice of costume (and that’s what we like, right ?!). There are two golden rules when dressing up like a famous person : 1 / Create a caricature…  People will recognize you straight away as the person you are trying to be. If you wanted to be a Spice Girl, you’d have to go for a Union Jack dress or ridiculous platform shoes, if you wanted to be Audrey Hepburn, you’d need the bun and the cigarette holder… See what I mean ? Think cliché, think simple, think OBVIOUS ! 2/ …But don’t forget the details ! The more you put into your outfit, the more you’ll get out of it – simple ! So once you have the general look, think of the smaller things like accessories or what to do or what to say to bring your lookalike costume to life ! Here are three DIY inspiration boards I have put together to help you dress like 2012 pop-star Carly Rae Jepsen, poor harassed Kate Middleton or the outrageous Lady Gaga. You should be able to whip these outfits together in seconds and shouldn’t have to go further than your local charity shop to get those extra bits and bobs. Remember to act the part too – it’s all part of the fun ! Happy Halloween !         Who else would be good for Halloween costume inspiration ? Send me photos of your Halloween creations and outfits on www.facebook.com/clonesnclowns ! xx – – – – – –

Lookbook : Petite Nature

I’m may be a city person, but it definitely feels good to get away from time to time. I had a wonderful day walking around the fields of Derbyshire last week-end. Hunter boots were a must – but don’t forget the glitter ! As for the rest, I chose a trendy but cosy outfit for a warm Winter’s walk. Beauty : Remove your nail polish in seconds !

I can’t even remember where I heard about this technique but I know I forgot to use it until I saw it again on the Internet the other day when browsing through Pinterest. I tried it this morning and just had to share it with you straight away – it’s incredible ! I love having my nails polished, playing with colours and turning my finger tips into fashionable accessories, however I often find myself spending a few days with chipped polish because I can’t be bothered to remove it… NOT sexy ! It tends to take me ages to clean my nails the traditional way, especially since I usually paint on 3 coats of polish so that the colour is bold and long-lasting. But now… NOW… I’ll be changing colour every few days because it will only ever take me SECONDS to remove it ! And as a bonus, I’ll be saving money instead of using almost a whole pack of cotton wool each time… Here’s how !   Easy, right ?! So watch out for my ever-changing nails from now on ! Today I’m going for a crackled red on powder pink – Mister Monkey loves it 🙂 Think you’ll give it a try ?! xx – – – – – –

DIY : Heart knee tights

Finally it’s here, the DIY you’ve all been waiting for ! Yes, because when I spent hours on end making a shopping bag out of leather last week, you were all more inspired by my Topshop tights than by the project ! Haha, I suppose I do understand, they’re pretty awesome tights 😉 And so here’s how you can make your own at home. I’ve added a touch of zebra print to make the project even more snazzy – hope you like them ! What do you think ?! On a more tragic note, I didn’t manage to stay in the TOP 10 fashion blogs in the Golden Blog Awards ! Never mind, c’est la vie – it was great fun and to show you I’m still a happy lil gurl and THANK YOU for all your support (because I may not have won but I did get hundreds of votes !!!) here’s a funny gif ! Thanks again to every single one of you who voted for me, this competition has shown me how many of you like my blog and has inspired me to do my very best to make this place as good as my brain, hands, scissors, glue, camera, keyboard and Internet connection will allow me to ! Lookbook : Yes, Daniel Cleaver

Let’s start off the week with a Bridget Jones reference : every time I wear something particularly short, I get an image of Hugh Grant asking me if my skirt is “off sick”. Well yes, Mister Cleaver, my skirt was off sick this week-end. But my waxed cotton mini shorts weren’t. I love playing around with proportions like wearing an oversized sweater with itty bitty shorts and these Acne Pistol boots polished it all off perfectly. As a bonus the sun came to take part in the photoshoot and him and I had lots of fun standing on the village bench in Hartington (Derbyshire, UK). Sweater : Topshop, similar here Shorts : Zara Bracelet : homemade (just braid 3 lengths of scruffy cotton !) Boots : Acne Pistol boots from www.my-wardrobe.com By the way, today is the last day you can vote for my blog in the Golden Blog Awards ! Shopping : That colour that I (used to) loath

I’m always shocked amazed surprised when I realise how much influence trends have on our tastes. However hard you try to stand out, you’re always part of one movement or another, always part of a trend or an anti-trend… I’ve told you before, but I’ll tell you again – I used to SWEAR I would never wear slim jeans… Ahem. How many people truly stay away from fashion and manage to create their own style ?! Not many people even particularly feel the need to wear something very unusual and unless your name is Gaga it’s better not to walk around wearing meat dresses anyway. Let’s face it, whatever our attempts to be “original”, we’re all fashion victims (that scene about cerulean blue in The Devil Wears Prada seems to come to mind…). Anyway, suicidal monologue aside, this topic came up because I would like to talk to you about my love-hate relationship with the new red. Burgundy, so to speak. In other words, that UGLY colour I’ve always loathed… and that I now crave on a daily basis. Now you see where I’m coming from. Someone up there, way up high, has decided that I would now love the dark-red / brown / can’t-quite-decide-if-it’s- purple-or-not colour that’s all over magazines, shop windows and celebs. And I seem to be at that someone’s mercy ! After all I suppose we should thank them for messing around with our minds, I mean, what would I do with the contents of my overflowing bank account otherwise ?! Ugh. I’m doomed. I’ve shown you my new hat already and I’ve told you I’m going to be making a burgundy tutu, now here’s a list of a few things I have seen in the shops or online. I love each one of these pieces and think about them very hard before I go to bed in the hope they’ll be there by my side when I wake up in the morning. No luck so far – but I bet Santa turns up in a burgundy suit this year ! Enjoy ! 1. Velvet boots : H&M // 2. Scarf : Asos PROMO // 3. Trousers : New Look // 4. Coat : Object Collectors Item  // 5. DIY : Barbie statement necklace

Chucnky statement necklaces are the way to go this year, especially worn with a smart jacket or under a shirt collar. I think bright accessories are perfect for a business meeting, it gives a bit of femininity to a ‘working woman’s’ outfit without going over the top or looking too casual. This is more of an inspiration tutorial than an actual project – you can use the techniques used for this statement necklace to make your own original piece of jewelry without necessarily using the same shapes and colours as I have. I hope you like it ! Necklace : DIY above Tee-shirt : Mango Jacket : IKKS Jeans : IKKS Shoes : New Look Leather bag : DIY here WAIT ! Before you go, I have two last things to say… 1 / I found out last night that my blog is so far 8th in the French Golden Blog Awards – I can’t believe it ! Thanks so much to anyone who has voted for Clones ‘n’ Clowns once, twice or everyday. 2 / Votes close on 22nd and I need to stay in the top 10 to get through to the finals ! If you liked this tutorial, if you like my blog or if you just think I have a funny face, PLEASE VOTE for my blog by clicking on the blue button below. You can vote once a day until Monday. One vote = one click = one second. Thank you all a million times around the World ! ♥   xx – – – – – –
